As this post is directed to the stressed out, overwhelmed, busy mama, I will keep it short and sweet.
There are only 5 habits you need to create to get healthier and create happiness in your life:
1) Get in 10,000 steps a day. Buy a pedometer, walk at lunch and after dinner. A study completed by Harvard showed that 30.000 people lost weight by tracking their steps (and that was the only thing they changed). On top of your workouts, focus on getting your steps in and the habits it creates (i.e. parking farther away, taking the stairs, etc.). This is habit forming and better for your health.
2) SLEEP. This is an easy one. Get in 7-9 hours of quality sleep. Go to bed at least 30 minutes before your sleep time. No technology 1 hour before bed. This is a hard one for you? Studies show that you will eat 1/5 more food if you lose 30 minutes of sleep. Want to lose weight, get under the covers.
3) 3 every 3 rule. I have spoken about this before. Eat every 3 hours (5-6 meals a day) with each meal consisting of a protein, fibre and healthy fat. Hummus and veggies, salad with chicken avocado and homemade dressing, apple with almond butter are all examples of the 3 rule.
4) Technology detox - 1 hour everyday UNPLUGGED. Blue light from your computer and TV makes you hungry, sad and sleep poorly. In addition, every time you get a "ding" on your phone, you have a surge of adrenline and over-stressing your body for no reason. Even better, put your phone on airplane mode for a weekend and get a tech detox!
5) Resistance exercises - weight training. We are working out too hard and putting our bodies in adrenal fatigue. Two High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts a week plus resistance training the other days, even body weight exercises, is better than full out HIIT workouts 6 days a week. We are already in our fight or flight modes from our day and then we increase that stress with our workout! This is why SLHW has 2 HIIT workouts per time slot throughout the week and will be adding 30 minute resistance routines to follow on the other days!
